Apply Now for the 2027-28 School Year Auditions!

Applications for auditions for the 2027-28 school year are now open!

Admission to the School of the Arts is for City of Rochester residents and is based on a formal audition process. Students may select only one field of study: Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Music: Instrumental and Vocal, Theatre Technology or Visual Arts. Auditions are approximately 3–4 hours long and are measured according to a standard rubric. For each audition, students are graded in a combination of group and individual settings. Auditions are judged by a team of faculty members and each student receives a numerical score from 1-to-10 based on the overall quality of the audition.

Schedule Your Conferences Online

Last year, we piloted our SOTA Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling App as an alternative to what many families affectionately—or perhaps not so affectionately—called the “SOTA 5K”: racing through the building to sign up for appointments on teachers’ doors.

We learned a lot from that pilot, listened to feedback from families and staff, and have continued working to improve the system. We are excited to bring it back for this year’s conferences!

How It Works

Complete the required information for your student, then select the teachers you would like to meet with and choose from their available appointment times. Continue adding teachers until you have created your personalized conference schedule.

As you schedule appointments, the system will display your conference schedule so you can plan your evening and avoid overlapping appointments.

A Few Important Reminders

  • Conferences are scheduled in 10-minute blocks from 5PM – 7PM
  • Schedule only one appointment per teacher, per student so that we can accommodate as many families as possible.
  • Use the SAME EMAIL in order to create your personal conference schedule. (The same email address should also be used when signing up SIBLINGS unless parents are dividing and conquering)
  • Use only Student First Name, Last Initial to maintain student privacy (this is required)
  • Be sure to consider travel time between classrooms when selecting back-to-back appointments.
  • If a teacher’s schedule is full, please reach out directly to the teacher to arrange another opportunity to connect.
  • On-line scheduling will close at 3PM the day before the event.
  • Advance online scheduling is strongly encouraged.

Experience the magic of DISNEY'S FROZEN THE MUSICAL, a beloved tale of sisterly love and adventure, from December 11-13 in the Allen Main Stage Theatre.

In the new year, we present THE DIVINERS, a poignant drama that explores the complexities of human connection, from February 4-6 in the Black Box Theatre. Presented in special arrangement with Concord Theatricals

Get ready to be dazzled by our talented dancers in the DANCE CONCERT 2027, taking place on March 5-6 in the Allen Main Stage Theatre.

Don't miss the iconic PIPPIN THE BROADWAY REVIVAL, a classic musical extravaganza, from April 29 to May 1 in the Allen Main Stage.

But that's not all! We're also excited to present PUFFS - A ONE ACT FOR YOUNG WIZARDS, featuring the talented performers in grades 7-9 on June 3-5.
